In a first for the show, two exhibitors were named ‘King of Craft’ at Casual Dining 2017.  Thistly Cross Cider’s Whisky Cask Cider and Freedom Brewery’s Organic Helles Lager both received top marks from the judges, who included selected VIP visitors.

The competition was open to all Craft Beer & Cider Pavilion exhibitors.

“Being voted King Of Craft at the 2017 Casual Dining Show is fantastic for Thistly Cross,” says head cidermaker Peter Stuart.

“As a truly independent craft cider company, we’re continuing the proud tradition of hand-pressing real fruit for cider made on our farm.  So to have our Whisky Cask Cider recognised as the premium cider of choice by the Casual Dining sector is really very satisfying.  You could say it’s the golden apple on top of Thistly’s whisky cask!  We’re already looking forward to next year,” he says.

“Obviously I am immensely proud that our Organic Helles Lager won King of Craft at this year’s Casual Dining show,” says Andrew Ahmad-Walsh, national sales controller at Freedom Brewery

“It is testament to our brewing team that such a balanced, tasty, and well-made Lager shone over a crowded category dominated by hoppy ales.  It was clearly the favourite among the attendees of casual dining too, and many considered the fact that they should put as much care and attention into their beer offering as they do with their food.  All in all a great show and a great way to top it off!” he says.
